Slickhorn Rapid is located at the mouth of Slickhorn Canyon — one of the most spectacular side canyons accessible from the San Juan River. The rapid is formed by debris washed in from the canyon drainage and delivers the most notable whitewater on the lower San Juan below Mexican Hat. The side canyon, named for the polished slickrock of its walls, is a rewarding short hike and a premier destination on a multi-day San Juan trip. At moderate flows, the rapid is a lively Class II wave train.
