Mantle Ranch Walk
A short but rewarding hike from the Yampa River to the historic Mantle Ranch — a homestead cabin tucked into the canyon wall above the river in Dinosaur National Monument. The ranch was built by the Mantle family in the early 1900s and operated as a remote canyon-bottom cattle operation until the monument expanded to include the Yampa corridor. The cabin and outbuildings remain standing and are maintained by the NPS as a historic site; visitors are asked not to enter the buildings. The walk follows a faint trail up from the river through sagebrush and juniper to the bench where the ranch sits, with views back down the Yampa Canyon in both directions. Most river groups visit on a layover day.
