Knowles Canyon Hike

Knowles Canyon climbs away from the Colorado in Ruby–Horsethief and runs back into the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness, the redrock backcountry south of the river. There's no fixed turnaround — you follow the drainage as far as time and water allow, then retrace your steps, so the hike scales from a short leg-stretch out of camp to a long half-day push into the side canyon. Travel is canyon-bottom and bench, with route-finding rather than a maintained trail the deeper you go. Carry your water from the river; the canyon is exposed and the day heats up fast.
