Mee Canyon Hike

A side hike up Mee Canyon from the Colorado River into the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness, climbing through a deepening sandstone gorge toward one of the largest alcoves in the region — a vast undercut amphitheater scoured into the canyon wall. The lower canyon holds petroglyph panels, and the route trades the open river corridor for shade, still air, and the scale of the alcove itself. Travel is on an unmaintained canyon-bottom route; pace and turnaround depend on the group and on how far up-canyon the objective sits.
