Fort Bottom Ruin Hike

A short climb above the Green River in Stillwater Canyon to the Ancestral Puebloan tower ruin — the Moki fort — with a historic outlaw cabin below.

Also known as: Fort Bottom, Moki Fort, Fort Bottom Tower Ruin

A short but steep climb off the Green River in Stillwater Canyon to one of the best-known cultural stops on the run: an Ancestral Puebloan masonry tower, the so-called Moki fort, standing on a butte above the river. Below it sits a weathered outlaw-era cabin, the kind of double-header — deep prehistory stacked on Wild West lore — that makes this a near-mandatory Stillwater layover. The route gains a few hundred feet to the butte with an exposed final pitch near the top; expect open desert with no shade and no water. Treat the tower as the protected resource it is: look, don't touch, don't enter.
