Rapid 12

Also known as: Last rapid before Mile Long

Rapid 12 is the last named rapid before the Mile Long sequence begins at Rapid 13 (Range Canyon debris flow). Rapids 11 and 12 run together at most flows, and together they mark the end of the 'upper rapids' section of Cataract. Below Rapid 12, the river enters the committed Mile Long / South Seas / Ben Hurt / Big Drops corridor. The last rapid before Mile Long (Rapids 13-20) begins at the Range Canyon debris-flow outwash 0.4 miles downstream. Parties planning to camp at Range Canyon Camp (scouting perch for Mile Long / Big Drops) typically pass through Rapid 12 as their last warm-up feature.
