Rapid 28
Re-emerged rapid documented by Returning Rapids Project at ~river mile 200. Visible since 2002-2003 drought dropped Lake Powell.
Also known as: Rapid 28, Short
Short Rapid (Rapid 28) is one of the re-emerged lower Cataract rapids — a drop that has returned to visibility as Lake Powell reservoir levels have dropped. Documented by the Returning Rapids Project after the 2002-2003 drought. Sits at approximately river mile 200 upstream from Lees Ferry, downstream of Imperial Canyon. Character evolves as sediment transport and reservoir level continue to change through the reach.
Difficulty
Class III- at the flows currently observed. Character may shift with ongoing reservoir-level and sediment-transport changes.
Scouting
Not typically scouted. A defined short drop; readable from the river.
