Triplet Falls
Triplet Falls at mile 10.8 is one of the three Class IV rapids of Lodore (alongside Upper Disaster Falls and Hell’s Half Mile). The rapid is a long left-handed turn ending with a large set of waves and holes on river-left and a massive jumble of boulders on river-right — the current pulls hard toward the right boulder field, so paddlers must commit left and hold the line.
Difficulty
Class IV. The current pull toward the right boulder side is the defining challenge; groups that hesitate on the entry end up threading the boulder field rather than the clean left line.
The water
Character: pool-drop with boulder garden.
Features: long left-handed turn approach; waves and holes on river-left; boulder jumble on river-right; strong right-bank current pull.
Scouting
Typically scouted as part of the Lodore big-three. Scout from river-left.
