Nefertiti Camp
The Nefertiti take-out camp — final night in the canyon before the shuttle arrives.
Also known as: Nefertiti Take-Out Camp
Nefertiti Camp at mile 74.4 marks the standard take-out point for the Desolation/Gray Canyon float — the classic terminus for the Sand Wash to Nefertiti trip. The take-out sits at the end of an unmaintained dirt road that drops off the canyon rim to the river — accessible by high-clearance vehicle, impossible in wet conditions. Most outfitters and private parties arrange shuttle to meet here. The camp itself is the final night for groups making the take-out the following morning: a flat sandy bench with full canyon wall views, downstream of the last significant rapids of Gray Canyon. The name Nefertiti refers to a rock formation above the take-out point that was fancifully associated with the Egyptian queen's profile. It is the last camp in the wilderness.
