School Section Camp at mile 72.3 is in lower Gray Canyon, approaching the Nefertiti take-out. The name reflects the old land survey practice of designating section 16 of each township as a 'school section' — land whose proceeds were earmarked for public education. The School Section Canyon adjacent to this camp carries a longer side-canyon hike route that gains significant elevation. The camp is often used as the final night camp for groups taking an early take-out the following day at Nefertiti. It is compact and positioned in a stretch of canyon where the walls have begun to open as the Green River approaches the Price River confluence region.
