Rapid · Lodore Canyon
Upper Disaster Falls
Upper Disaster Falls is the first of the two drops that together make up Disaster Falls, 6.6 miles into the Canyon of Lodore. A pool separates it from the lower drop, which is what makes the pair scoutable and recoverable as a staged pair rather than one continuous commitment. Scouting is common from river left, where a portage trail also runs. Difficulty and run beta for this drop in isolation are deliberately unauthored — the Class III–IV rating on the parent record describes the sequence as a whole, and splitting that rating between the two drops would be an invention.
Scouting
